A Cultural Legacy Reimagined: The Design of Pure Golf Club in Shenzhen

Pure Golf Club marks a significant milestone as the first indoor golf club project by our studio. Located in a Grade-A office tower in Shenzhen and developed by a London-based client, the club redefines what a private golf venue can be – discreet, refined, and steeped in cultural resonance. Exclusively accessible to members by invitation, the space is not only a sanctuary for sport but a curated experience of understated luxury.

This project began as a renovation, presenting a unique set of constraints. Existing flooring and fixed air-conditioning systems had to be retained, challenging us to design around these limitations with elegance and intentionality. Rather than allowing these conditions to restrict creativity, they became anchors for a thoughtful spatial composition, one that respects the building’s bones while reimagining its soul.

Pure Golf Club 是我們的首個室內高爾夫會所項目，標誌著我們設計旅程上的重要里程碑。該會所位於深圳市中心甲級辦公大樓之中，由一位來自倫敦的客戶委託開發，旨在打造一個低調奢華、專屬會員制的私人高爾夫空間，既為熱愛高爾夫的客人提供沉浸式體驗，同時也是一處精緻雅致的社交場所。

此項目為舊有空間的改造工程，因此在設計之初便面臨既有條件的挑戰如必須保留原有地板與空調系統。我們將這些限制視為創作的起點，以細緻精巧的方式將它們融入整體空間敘事之中，既尊重建築本身的原貌，也重新塑造了其內涵與靈魂。

In the early stages of conceptual development, we immersed ourselves in the historical and cultural roots of golf. One particularly compelling inspiration came from an 18th-century painting housed at the National Galleries of Scotland, portraying Sir James and Sir Alexander Macdonald as young boys – one holding a musket, the other a golf club. The work not only revealed how embedded golf already was in Scottish aristocratic life, but also offered a glimpse into the sartorial elegance of the era, where tartan patterns symbolized lineage and identity. This painting became a visual and conceptual touchstone for the design narrative.

在構思階段，我們深入探索高爾夫運動的歷史與文化脈絡。其中一幅收藏於蘇格蘭國家美術館的十八世紀畫作成為本案的靈感來源之一，畫中描繪年幼的麥克唐納兄弟，一人持槍，一人揮桿。畫作不僅展現高爾夫在蘇格蘭上流社會早已盛行，更以服飾紋樣象徵家族身份，為設計故事注入濃厚的歷史情懷。

Golf’s long and layered history – from its early days on the Scottish coast to its royal endorsement by King James IV and its spread through Europe by figures like Mary Queen of Scots – provided a rich foundation. These cultural origins inspired a design that blends tradition with innovation, crafting a space where past and present meet in harmony.

高爾夫運動起源於蘇格蘭東岸的沙丘地形，最早可追溯至十五世紀。儘管曾因妨礙軍事訓練而遭詹姆士二世禁令，卻在詹姆士四世成為首位揮桿君主後迅速回歸並廣為流行，最終透過瑪麗女王等歐洲皇室傳播至世界各地，形成今日的全球化運動。這樣深厚的歷史基礎成為本案設計語彙的精神根源，傳統與創新之間的對話，文化與空間的交織。

The spatial layout was reorganized to reflect the sensibility of a high-class club with a private, low-profile atmosphere. At the entrance, a compact foyer obscured the interior from immediate view, echoing the transitional vestibules common in European manor houses. This moment of pause sets the tone for the experience inside – intimate, exclusive, and elegant. Beyond the foyer lies the golf lobby, a generous and adaptable open area that functions both as a guest reception space and a venue for private events, such as cocktail gatherings and member socials.

空間動線重新規劃，以營造一種尊貴而內斂的俱樂部氛圍。入口處設有一處玄關，阻隔外部視線，也呼應歐洲住宅常見的過渡空間設計，為訪客營造靜謐尊榮的初印象。進入後便來到高爾夫大廳，這是一處開放而靈活的空間，既可作為接待與休憩之所，也可用於舉辦私人酒會與品牌活動。

In the golf lobby, a custom-designed display cabinet presents curated golf accessories, subtly nodding to British heritage without resorting to overt commercialism. Adjacent to this, a symmetrically arranged pantry area balances utility with visual harmony. Flanked by tall louvered cabinets, one side functions as a check-in station while the other offers refreshments and coffee. The centre section, elegantly concealed behind louver doors, stores members’ golf bags, reinforcing the sense of personalized service.

大廳中設置了一組訂製展示櫃，陳列精選高爾夫器具與配件，風格沉穩不流於商業化，更側重於文化意涵的展現。相鄰的茶水區以對稱布局展現秩序美感，兩側為高櫃設計，一側作為接待用途，另一側則提供咖啡與甜點。中間的百葉櫃，用作會員高爾夫球袋收納空間。

A marble island anchors the pantry, complemented by a brass-finished pendant light that casts a soft glow both upwards and downwards. More than a decorative statement, the island becomes a social hub – a place where members gather, exchange stories, and unwind after a session of golf.

中島採用天然大理石打造，搭配上下雙向發光的黃銅吊燈，不僅提升整體氛圍，更成為賓客互動、分享球藝經驗的交流重心。中島不只是裝飾，更是連結人與空間的情感載體。

The club gets three advanced golf simulation bays for training and leisure. At the far end, two of the bays are enhanced with deep blue bar tables, allowing guests to enjoy a drink while practicing. The third bay features a sofa arrangement, accommodating families and creating a relaxed, inclusive environment where children and companions can also participate.

整體空間共設有三個標準模擬高爾夫區，以及一間尊榮 VIP 模擬室。靠內部的兩個模擬區配有深藍色吧檯，讓賓客在練球時也能小酌放鬆；另一個模擬區則設有沙發座位，便於家庭客戶陪同與休憩，打造輕鬆溫馨的氛圍。

Materials and textures throughout the space were carefully curated to evoke the atmosphere of a classic British club. Rich walnut wood veneer wraps the walls and millwork, lending warmth and a sense of tradition. Window blinds diffuse light softly, enhancing the intimate ambiance. Large structural columns, typically challenging to integrate, were subtly concealed using mirrored surfaces and wall sconces that blend into the overall aesthetic.

在材質選擇上，我們大量採用胡桃木飾面，傳達英式經典會所的厚重質感。窗邊裝設百葉窗，加強空間的文化氛圍。原建築中的大柱則巧妙以鏡面搭配壁燈包覆，使其隱身於空間之中，不破壞整體和諧。布藝部分特別選用來自倫敦的 Ralph Lauren 面料，使空間語彙更加一致與精緻。

Between the golf lobby and the VIP suite lies a corridor designed as a quiet transition. Furnished with a single armchair facing the window, the space invites a moment of contemplation. By keeping the corridor visually minimal, we preserved the beauty of the outdoor view and offered guests a serene interlude between areas.

高爾夫大廳與 VIP 區之間設有一條過渡走廊，僅擺設一張單椅對景而坐，設計極為簡約，以尊重窗外自然景致，讓來賓在此片刻駐足、靜享片刻寧靜。

The VIP bay stands as the pinnacle of the design – an enclave of elegance and exclusivity. Here, a custom carpet pattern inspired by traditional tartan grounds the space, while the feature wall is upholstered in fabric sourced from Ralph Lauren’s collection, shipped directly from London. Bespoke furniture and a curated floor lamp enhance the ambiance. In one corner, a marble pedestal holds a pine bonsai, a gesture toward calm and equilibrium. Beyond its visual appeal, the bonsai pays homage to the Zen ideals of harmony and introspection, subtly bridging Eastern and Western philosophies.

VIP 區為整體會所的核心所在，專為尊榮會員打造的獨立練習空間。地毯圖騰靈感來自蘇格蘭格紋（Tartan），徽標牆則以 Ralph Lauren 布料包覆。家具與立燈精挑細選，空間氛圍高雅而放鬆。在一角設置了大理石展示台，擺放一株松盆栽，象徵平衡與靜謐，也呼應東方禪意與自然美學，成為東西方文化於空間中交融的具象表達。

This project represents more than the completion of a space – it embodies our studio’s philosophy of fusing cultural storytelling with timeless design. By channelling the spirit of golf’s aristocratic origins and translating it through refined spatial language, Pure Golf Club offers more than a recreational venue. It becomes a setting where memory, identity, and craftsmanship converge.

這個項目不僅是一次設計的實踐，更體現了我們設計事務所「以文化敘事為基底，結合空間語言構築永恆美學」的理念。透過對高爾夫歷史的致敬與當代設計的詮釋，Pure Golf Club 成為一個有故事、有溫度的場所，亦是一場專屬於會員的空間體驗。
