Arrival Station – The Future of Mobility

Dezeen has teamed up with electric vehicle company Arrival to launch a global competition for mobility solutions that reimagine the future of transportation.

Arrival is pioneering a decentralised method of making electric vehicles. Their local, low-footprint Microfactories use cell-based robotic assembly instead of a traditional automotive production line. Microfactories are set up in areas of demand using existing commercial spaces or warehouses and require lower capital expenditure to establish.

Hong Kong is a densely populated city with scarce land resources. Owing to limited road space, the Government can hardly resolve the traffic congestion problem solely by the continuous construction of roads. Over the years, the Government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to alleviate road traffic congestion, encompassing efforts to improve transport infrastructure, expand and enhance the public transport system, and manage the use of roads. However, it was ineffective.

In addition, road transport infrastructure is limited due to the physical and spatial constraints imposed by intensifying urban development in Hong Kong and diverse views from the public on visual impact considerations, environmental concerns, and impact on existing traffic resulting from the construction of new roads and highways.

It is often incorrectly suggested that congestion may be solved with one big idea, such as Widen roads or Build tunnels and car parks. None of these can deliver a complete solution, and most of them provide only temporary relief until induced demand fills up the road space once more. As a result, the most efficient way to change the future of transportation is to improve Hong Kong citizens’ perceptions of public transport.

Long traffic queue in congestion worsens roadside air quality, which not only exacerbates the threat to public health but also affects the quality of life and the image of Hong Kong as a world-class metropolis. It will also undermine Hong Kong’s attractiveness for overseas companies to establish regional headquarters offices in Hong Kong.

To tackle the problem of traffic congestion. Reimagine the future of transportation, radically impacting our planet, creating true sustainability and empowering local communities in Hong Kong. We need to invest in improving sustainable transport modes and, at the same time, improve Hong Kong citizens’ perceptions of public transport.

Arrival Station is a precision booking system to provide the most accurate transportation time and schedule for Hong Kong citizens. In the future, Arrival Station big data can calculate the best situation of the Hong Kong transportation network to avoid any traffic congestion and provide the most accurate time for citizen selection. The system will incorporate the Arrival Bus, the Hong Kong MTR, Uber, Taxi and so on. It will survey the road traffic information and sync the software to allow the users to choose the most suitable time and schedule for commuting.

To solve the traffic congestion problem comprehensively in future Hong Kong, Arrival Station will be combined with three components. They are “Mobile”, “Home” and “City”.

Log in with the phone number and the password or click the start to use the Arrival Station mobile app.

02. Home Page
The payment methods such as Hong Kong Octopus card or credit card will be shown on the home page.

03. Transportation
The users can select the transportation way which they want such as Arrival Bus or Uber. The schedule which they have booked before will be shown as well.

04. Route & Date
As an example, Arrival Bus, the users can search the bus route and then type the date.

05. Recommend Time
The system will base on the most updated Hong Kong traffic situation and provide the best time schedule for users selection to avoid traffic congestion.

06. QR Code
A QR Code will be generated for the users and then the users can scan the code before getting on the bus.

To convince and encourage the citizen to take the public transport, Arrival Station Home panel can be installed in the house. The design is simple but practical. Artificial intelligence for some older people who do not know how to use the smartphone.

In the future, the size of the bus stop will be scaled-down. Arrival Station, the system will arrange the perfect schedule for the users, therefore, the scenario of the queue will be reduced. In addition, post COVID-19 era, decreasing public queuing connection will be a new normal. The future bus stop can be constructed with Arrival’s proprietary composite materials which are low cost, strong and lightweight.

The mission of Arrival Station is going to solve the problem of traffic congestion in future Hong Kong, even the world. The precision booking system will change human behaviour to be well organized in their commuting time and stop wasting the time.

When talking about Arrival, the Bus is zero tailpipe emissions and low carbon production; the Microfactory reduces the environmental impact of manufacturing and the Arrival Station is a precision software to provide the best transportation mobility solutions for human beings.
